Compound Tibia Fracture

“An open fracture, also called a compound fracture, is a fracture in which there is an open wound or break in the skin near the site of the broken bone. Most often, this wound is caused by a fragment of bone breaking through the skin at the moment of the injury.”

- American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons

Most of these injuries are caused by high moving events. Such as a gunshot or vehicle accident. Although, it remains a mystery of how Kevin Ware got his injury. It is very rare that this injury occurs at a basektball game. Some say that Kevin didn't have enough vitamins in his bones and it gave out when he landed.

Ware suffered from the most severe case of compound tibia fracture. In his case, the bone puntured through his skin and was exposed to the raw environment. He didn't just fracture his bone he also damaged the soft tissues, muscles, skin and ligaments.
